Welcome to the DRUM Foundation

Charles Bowers

On behalf of the Developmental Roundtable for Upward Mobility, Inc. (DRUM) and the DRUM Foundation, Inc. (DFI), it is my extreme pleasure to welcome you to our website. It is our sincerest wish that this website will provide valuable information while serving to encourage and inspire support for our community outreach programs and philanthropic efforts.

Dr. King wrote “Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality.” When one considers this quote, it seems that our motto “I Serve, We Prosper” is all the more appropriate in serving as DRUM’s guiding principle. A recent DRUM Martin Luther King commemorative celebration theme “We Serve, Generations Prosper” continues to build on this truth while appreciating the contributions of those that have gone before us and reminding us of our obligations to all those who will come after us.

As a founding member of the DRUM organization, I have marveled with pride in the progress that has been achieved by this organization and the quality of men who now make up its membership. As Executive Director for the DRUM Foundation, Inc., I am also proud that DRUM saw the need and took the steps to make a positive impact on our community by establishing a 501(c)(3) entity.

Dr. King also wrote “All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.” DRUM sees this as our call and our obligation to provide support to the extent possible in providing mentoring, educational, and professional development opportunities for the benefit of our community.

I encourage you to join us as we seek to enhance the lives of all people by systemically facilitating enrichment programs designed to develop and enhance our community’s spirit, mind and body. “An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
